This is something that I have not yet thought about during this project so far. I have started with some drawing developments of microscopic images of fibres that I discovered online. Throughout the year of this project I plan to investigate material properties further to create a material library that can be used for educational purposes for learn about fibre qualities.
I have used graph paper to recreate my drawings as repeated jacquard designs, using acetate I drew around the shape that had been developed from microscopic drawings to create the repeating pattern. For the material library I plan to use these jacquard designs to create knit fabric samples in the fibre that is displayed, such as for cotton; a white and a black cotton yarn will be used for the knitted sample.
I have also looked at material properties earlier in this project when investigating with yarns to knit samples for sublimation printing, as a synthetic fibre has to present to press the print to fabric.
I am planning to do some investigation into material qualities and developing this through methodologies of forensic science, I want to use this knowledge to analysis materials within the archive along side using the skills I acquire in fabric analysis of knitted samples to develop a further understanding of the pieces within the collection.
